The Internet is invented with the objective of connecting various research networks in the United States and Europe. Later, it was figured out that the entire world can get the benefits of the internet.
"The Internet is a global computer network for communication – actually nothing more than a basic computer network. The Internet simply moves data from one place to another, so that we can chat, browse and share." [1]
Today, the internet has become one of the essential technological tools that we need to do our day to day work.
Internet, we use it for entertainment, work as well as Learn. For example, we can watch movies and listen to songs on the Internet, for entertainment purposes.
We can use Google Documents, an online text editor, to manage or work. Also, Google Drive, Dropbox, Outlook are some other examples of internet tools people use for their work.
Moodle, the platform you are using now, is an internet tool that you can give us an example for using the Internet for Learning. Also, YouTube, Google Search, Wikipedia are a few more to that.

Think about how you connect to Internet? Maybe through your mobile phone data connection, then it is a wireless way. Some of you might be using a Wired internet connection like ADSL copper lines. It's the other way.
But this is only the 1st level of the Internet. There are a lot of other hardware devices involved, such as routers, switches, repeaters, modems and more.
